Respiratory infections

The cases that are usually hospitalised concern – mainly during the winter months – respiratory infections, such as:

• Pneumonia-pleurisy
• Bronchial asthma attacks
• Bronchiolitis
• Ear infections
• Lymphadenitis

Acute and chronic abdominal pain

Almost all year round we face cases with acute, chronic abdominal pain that some of them develop into acute gastroenteritis with a risk of dehydration, while others develop into acute appendicitis or some other paediatric surgery problem.

Allergic reactions

Allergic reactions are a common paediatric problem and unfortunately, in some cases, very dangerous for the health of our young patients. Allergic reactions involve simple - extensive urticaria rashes up to and including anaphylactic shock.

Haematological cases

Our department treats children with diseases such as idiopathic throbocytopenic purpura - leukopenia - neutropenia, children with autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, Kawasaki syndrome, Henoch Schonlein purpura, etc.

Skin infections

We treat all kinds of skin infections, including the most common ones - especially during the summer months - such as impetigo and cellulitis, but also more serious ones, such as staphylococcal toxic epidermolysis.

Paediatric neurology cases

The paediatric neurological cases concern convulsions, whether they are feverish or untreated, epilepsy seizures, meningitis (usually viral) etc.

A few words from Mrs. Nikolaou Maria, Paediatrician, Head of the department

"I started working at St. Luke's Hospital in June 2014. It was an honour for me the proposal that was made to me at the time to take over the responsibility of the Paediatrics Department from the Hospital Management and I feel very responsible for this whole project.

There is proper organisation, quick treatment of cases and good coordination between all paediatricians and neonatologists.
The nursing staff is highly experienced and treats our young patients in a manner appropriate to their age.
Trying to improve the hospitalisation conditions of our young patients, the facilities of the department were renovated. Thus, the Paediatrics Department became more child-friendly, with the renovation of the playroom, the rooms and the common areas. When our young patients visit the department and its playroom, they want to stay there..."
