The Urology Department of St. Luke's Hospital is one of the most recognizable surgical urology clinics in Greece. It consists of collaborators of great scientific value and prestige. Every year more than about 2400 operations are performed and the entire range of urological diseases is treated. There is also special experience in the field of Urologic Oncology and Endourology.

Scientific work of the Department

With regard to the scientific part, the work of the Department is active with the participation of many of our Urologists in medical research and the publication of scientific papers in recognized international conferences and journals.

At the forefront of Urology

Many innovative surgical techniques were applied for the first time, thanks the extensive experience of the Department. In the field of robotic surgery for prostate cancer, innovative techniques are applied throughout Northern Greece, such as Retzius Sparing and SMART prostatectomy.

• In December 2019, a robotic neuro-protective prostatectomy for prostate cancer was performed for the first time in Greece, with the revolutionary NeuroSAFE technique.

• In February 2019, the first transurethral enucleation of the prostate was performed for the first time nationwide using Holmium Laser (HoLEP), a pioneering method for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.  

Other operations performed in our Hospital for the first time in the private sector of Northern Greece are the following:
