St. Luke's Hospital, with more than 2000 patients who go under anaesthesia every month, is classified in one of the most productive health units in Greece. In order to achieve proper levels of anaesthesia, more than 20 anaesthesiologists in 23 modern equipped rooms carefully practice their work. Anaesthesia causes great concern to patients and their relatives. We often hear the phrase, "Will I wake up from anaesthesia?" In modern anaesthesiology, the rate of major complication or anaesthesia-related mortality has fallen to 1 in 250.000 anaesthetics. These numbers may vary when dealing with elderly patients with serious health problems and major operations.
Nevertheless, even in elderly people, anaesthesia-related mortality has declined dramatically in recent decades.
