MRI of the Heart

What does MRI of the heart offer?

Magnetic resonance imaging of the heart (MRI) is one of the most important diagnostic techniques offering unique insights into the anatomy and function of the heart.

‍It is ideal in investigation of a multitude of heart problems, as it provides high-definition images of cardiac structures (heart cavities, valves, large vessels) and with high diagnostic accuracy;

The contribution of MRI of the heart is also decisive in the study of concomitant cardiopathies in children and adults. All patients with a possible cardiac problem, including patients with a defibrillator/pacemaker (subject to conditions) can undergo the examination.

- advantages of the method -
What are the advantages of MRI of the heart compared to other diagnostic imaging methods?

MRI of the heart is a non-invasive, bloodless imaging examination;

It does not expose the patient to ionizing radiation, therefore it can be safely carried out in the majority of patients, even in children.

Offers high definition images.

It allows three-dimensional imaging of the heart cavities and vessels of the chest;

What is the examination procedure?

What are the steps:

01

MRI of the heart is a painless and easy examination. No special preparation is required from patients, except that they have removed any metal objects from above them.

02

The doctor places stickers on the patient's chest so that there is a continuous
Heart rate monitoring and a venous catheter is also placed to administer the contrast agent approximately halfway through the examination.

03

The examination takes about 45 minutes and the patient does not feel any pain. Throughout the examination he is lying down and relatively still, usually listening to music with special headphones.

04

After the end of the examination, the patient returns to his activities normally, without any restrictions.
