CT Scan of the Heart (Coronary Artery)

THE Axial (Hemorrhagic) Coronary Arteryis a particularly useful modern imaging technique in the investigation of coronary heart disease. Based on the latest guidelines, it dominates as a first-line diagnostic method, providing immediately, quickly and with high diagnostic accuracy, valuable information on the quality of coronary vessels, confirming or excluding the presence of atherosclerotic plaques and possible stenoses.

It is indicated both in the context of prevention (severe hereditary history, in asymptomatic patients based on risk factors), and diagnostically in a number of cases, such as:

 Chest pain in people with little or intermediate chance of coronary heart disease

In patients without known coronary artery disease, presenting with typical or atypical angina or with non-anginal chest pain, combined with pathological resting cardiogram

Primary heart failure without previously known coronary heart disease

A 43-year-old male, a smoker and with dyslipidemia, with atypical angina and non-specific electrocardiographic alterations during fatigue, came to our department to perform a CT Coronography.

With appropriate preparation prior to the examination and the use of the appropriate protocol, high diagnostic images were obtained and multilevel and three-dimensional reconstructions of the coronary vessels and cardiovascular formation were performed, revealing a severe degree of stenosis in the proximal part of the anterior cationic branch (LAD), due to the presence of circulating non-detitrated (“soft”) atherosclerotic plaque.

The patient was successfully treated with angioplasty (stent placement).

A 61-year-old man with a history of angioplasty in the near-middle part of the anterior cationic branch four years ago, came to perform a CT (hemorrhagic) coronary angiography to assess the patency of the stent and to visualize the coronary vessels in detail.

Using an appropriate protocol and with special algorithms—filters for reducing the radiation of the state-of-the-art 128-section SOMATOM tomograph go.Tops, the stent (intra-atrial), as well as other parts of the coronary vessels, was achieved with high diagnostic clarity and a very low dose of radiation.
